The 11th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is going to be held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Nariman Point, Mumbai, from February 3-9, 2010. This film festival for documentary, short and animation films will have three new segments – students’ films/videos, mobile films and puppet animation films.
In a press conference at Goa the director of MIFF Kuldeep Sinha told reporters, “Documentaries films were never given prominence in our country before. But now the same has come to lime light through such film fests in India. The year 2010 will see three new divisions. While one is the students’ films in competitive section, the other is for mobile film screening irrespective of film lengths on an experiement basis and the last is the puppet animation films. For this, we are going to have workshops from India and abroad and will invite good puppeteers from across the globe.”
The Indian filmmaker for his life time contribution to documentary movement will be honoured with Dr V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award. This film festival that would take place once in two years has received entries from atleast 37 countries which happened for the first time in MIFF history.
