A dark moment struck on the auspicious Bheeshma Ekadasi day and this was the passing away of the noted veteran Gummadi Venkateswara Rao. The man was a personification of a true character artiste and has sent a benchmark which is hard for anyone to reach or get past it. Now, the talk in the film nagar is that the Government must come up with a proposal to institute a Gummadi Memorial Award and give it to the best character artiste. Even the Tollywood folks are talking about it seriously and they want to come up with something similar. On the other hand, many private organizations especially the culture wings are keen on doing something on behalf of the late character actor. The film buffs say that it is indeed a worthy move and recall that Gummadi was always the unsung hero so he should be given the due honor. |
