Insecurity Among Jr NTR’s Friends

While the house of the Nandamuri family is gearing up for the big event of the wedding of NTR junior, it is heard that his friends are not too sure about their happiness part. Apparently, junior is known to be a lion heart when it comes to pampering his friends and they really enjoy his company.

Now, the friends are said to be worried if junior is going to change after marriage just like any other man. Junior is known to take his friends out for long drives, exotic places and they used to have a blast but the scene changes when wife enters the picture and friends have to stay away.

Junior is a good friend and this sense of insecurity is disturbing them. However, some say that NTR is one man who knows his relations well and knows how to keep each one of them happy. So if the friends are reading this, they can be rest assured that life is going to be almost the same.

Longest Lip Kiss Of Naga Chaitanya

‘Ye Maya Chesave’ is releasing tomorrow. The movie has got good hype as AR Rehman composed music, Goutam Menon directed and Nag’s son Naga Chaitanya playing lead. Another attractive feature in this film is the longest lip kiss was shot on Naga Chaitanya and Samanta and the censor objected it and 50 feet got removed. That is equal to some 2-3 minutes on screen. But still, the hot lip lock is there in the movie and it’s going to be a big treat for youth audience. Get glued to know the impact of that kiss. Nagarjuna said about this lip lock scene and smiled in his own style as a proud father.

Ramcharan’s Marriage Plans By Allu Aravind

Now that NTR jr is all set to tie the knot, it is heard that the crafty movie maker Allu Aravind has begun to make plans for a wedding in their family. Interestingly, he is said to be keeping his focus more on Charan than Arjun. It is said that Charan is now being seen as the next icon from the Chiru clan.

So sources say Allu Aravind is getting in touch with the Kapu biggies so that the best of the best alliance can be brought for Charan. Already, the Sreeja- Sirish issue gave them a jolt so both Chiru and Aravind are keen on not taking any further chances for their kids.

It is also said that Aravind has got his focus on his three sons and is keeping in track of their movements. As it is, they have an active social life so the chances of straying are quite strong. So now, Allu has become the ‘pelli pedda’ for all the four youngsters of their family.

Director Gowtam Menon Reveals 'Manjula-Secret'

Ye Maya Chesaavedirector Gowtam Menon in an interview revealed his strife with producer Manjula.

He said, “Manjula agreed to pay me the proposed check and also promised fifty percent of the profits of the film. I finished the film in 55 days but she could not sell the film and later demanded my salary back and filed a complaint against me in the producer’s council. I gave her back the 1. 6 Crores and now she is releasing the film herself. I regret doing a film with people who have no passion or knowledge of good cinema. But it was an eye-opener and will not do the film that we were supposed to do with Mahesh Babu in the lead”.

This is certainly raising curtains to the new controversies. Manjula popularly known as daughter of Ghattamaneni Krishna and sister of Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu is alleged this way by a top director just a day before the film’s release. We have to see how this issue will be settled and what Manjula will do to correct her image.

Trisha’s Smooch And Romance With Simbu

This could be true if our sources from Kollywood are to be believed. The petite beauty Trisha who is all set to arrive with her new Tamil movie ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya’ has been hitting the gossip mills big time. This is due to her rather ‘special’ friendship with co-star and friend Silambarasan. News is that both have indulged in a steamy lip lock sequence and unit members say that chemistry is seen off the sets as well. As usual, Trisha has denied these reports quoting Simbu is just a friend and not her type in terms of romance. But only time will tell whether she is right or not…

Udaya Bhanu's Sex Appeal In Demand

For those who are into native sex appeal and want a domestic dose of Viagra, the name of Udaya Bhanu is sufficient. Yes, this dusky beauty who rules the roost in the small screen also is a dream queen of many men and right now, she seems to be the hottest bird in the tinsel town as well.

After looking at the item song of the film ‘Leader’, many are going ga ga over Udaya Bhanu and want to take her into their movies for the special song segment. However, the hot babe is said to have become very choosy and she is keen on big banner directors only.

It was few years back when Bhanu was seen in an item song for the film ‘Aapada Mokkulavaadu’ and many got a taste of her oomph factor. Now, with ‘Leader’ Udaya Bhanu has proved that she still has enough ammunition to create a lot of motion in the trousers of the men.

Richa And Rana @ 9 Lakhs!!

The film industry is one tough place to make a living and that too earn money without much efforts. However, it takes those lucky few who tend to fill their bank accounts with their mere presence. They are the celebrity stars and right now, two names are in discussion.

They are the duo of Daggubati Rana and the ravishing beauty Richa Gangopadhyay. Both paired up for the film ‘Leader’ and now it is heard that in order to make their presence felt, one has to shell out a cool Rs 9 lakhs. Well, this is the remuneration both take to attend an event or inaugurate an establishment.

Sources reveal that while Rs 2 lakhs go for Richa, Rs 7 lakhs is the remuneration for Rana for their mere presence. And again, there are certain sub-clauses such as the time required for them to be around and what must be their activities as part of the event. So that’s the Rana- Richa account for you folks.

‘Inkosari’ Review: Only For Class Audience

Film: Inkosari
Rating:
2.75/5
Banner:
Bay Movies
Cast: Raja, Manjari Phadnis, Richa, Vennela Kishore, Ravi Varma, Sandeep, Harish, Rao Ramesh, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Bhargavi, Sayali Bhagat and others
Music: Mahesh Shankar
Dialogues: Gandham Nagaraju
Editing: K V Krishna Reddy
Cinematography: Gogineni Ranganath
Director: Suman Pathuri
Producer: Kalyan Palla
Release date: 26/02/2010

The multiplex hero Raja who has been trying hard for a hit has arrived with a new venture and the ‘Nuvve Kavali’ fame Richa Pallod also makes her comeback. How did the movie work for both of them and of course the others, let us see.

Story
Six friends Ajay (Raja), Shruti (Manjari), Bala (Kishore), Vicky (Harish), Sudhakar (Ravi) and Deepti (Richa) complete their college and till then life has been full of fun and frolic. They meet up for one last time and decide to meet on the same day next year. However, that doesn’t happen as everyone gets busy. After seven years, Ajay is back from US and he decides to have a week long vacation with all his friends. He gets in touch with the rest of the gang and finally all of them agree. What happens from there and how each person’s life has taken turns forms the rest of the story.

Performances
Raja is just ok. He needs to show something different in his performance. The same old phenomenon may not work for him.

Manjari looks pretty as ever and though she was unable to do well in the anger or emotional scenes, her screen presence is sweet.

Richa is a laid back character for her and she has done her bit with energy and contributed.

Vennela Kishore is the life and soul for the movie, witty dialogues and energetic performance, he is the show-stealer.

Harish added his bit of humor and he showed confidence (his ‘aapa ra Hindi’ comedy video has been the most popular on youtube). He is the real comedy actor who deserves more opportunities.

Sandeep has delivered a decent performance and has got handsome looks. If he could work on adding few emotional expressions then it would work. He has got potential.

Gollapudi Maruti Rao was general, Saira Bhanu looks seductive, Sayali’s song could have been better. Rao Ramesh was brief.

Highlights:
Vennela Kishore, the real hook for the film
‘Gamyam’ fame Nagaraju’s Dialogues, carried enthusiasm

Disappointments:
Mild pace
Technical values

Analysis
The film runs on a good concept but then it is the presentation and narrative that have spoiled the spirit. There are two reasons why the film works – the exceptional performance of Vennela Kishore and some strong and witty dialogues from Gandham Nagaraju.

Otherwise, the background score was non-situational at few scenes, songs were just okay, cinematography was weak, costumes were neat and art department was alright. The film also suffered due to lack of pace and few directorial flaws were clearly evident.

Raja-Manjari romance didn’t gel well.

The first five minutes is quite shaky as though we are already past 20 minutes but later on, it settles and goes smoothly. If the makers had worked on the technical values and gave it a good visual appeal adding it with speed, the impact would have been much better. This is film for the urban audience and the youth audience, nothing in it for the masses.

Real credit goes to Vennela Kishore as he shouldered the movie in a very entertaining manner.

If the budget is not too high for the film, it could make decent returns at the box office. It goes well with class audiences but masses will be a doubt.

Bottom Line: Not So Appealing

Tollywood 2010: ‘Dead End’ For Big Heroes

The time has come to face some realities and this has to do with the future of Tollywood for the year 2010. One thing looks clear, the era of the big four or shall we say the big three seems to be coming to an end. Here is a look at why such thoughts are coming up.

Apparently, a young wave has taken over with the likes of NTR jr, Daggubati Rana, Ramcharan, Allu Arjun etc and they are going for the big directors. On the contrast, big guns like Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Balakrishna are going in for the relatively less experienced or sometimes debutantes.

Also, it is heard that many are unable to come up with the right kind of stories for the big three and a scene reversal has taken place in terms of the directors. Chiru is no longer there, Balayya has reached the saturation point, Nag and Venky have not much to achieve so we leave it to your thoughts to see where this year is heading folks…

Trouble Couple??!!!

We have already witnessed an ace anchor and a character artist entering wedlock. Moreover, we also know the aftermath – Jogi Naidu and Jhansi. And we could see something similar between Rajeev Kanakala and anchor Suma’s bonding in troubled waters. So what’s wrong?

The couple who received great appreciation for their unconventional love affair is having tough time. Blame it on Rajeev Kanakala – the actor is unable to quit boozing and also taking liberties at his co-stars outside his marriage. And no wonder, Suma, who has been playing a waiting ame all these days, is miffed.Let’s hope her husband would be back on track soon.

Heroine speaks on her married life news

Meena having got married to Bangalore based software engineer Vidyasagar last year, sometime back there was a news in some media’s that there are several issues in which the couple has differences of opinion. This also led to rumors that Meena and Vidyasagar may move the court for divorce. The actress has now made it clear that her marriage life is going on well. Meena also clarified that she is under no pressure to act or quit acting and her husband’s family is supportive of all the career moves she makes. She also appealed to the media and fans not to spread rumors about her marital life.

Mahash Babu Movie Gets Prolonged!

While fans of young hero prince Mahesh Babu are awaiting anxiously for his next release, the movie in the making in Thrivikram Srinivas is getting delayed day by day. The flick’s title is yet to be finalised and it was originally planned for release in this summer. For reasons not known, it is being delayed and there are no indications that it would hit the screens in this summer. It may, probably make it by the end of the year.

Nagarjuna’s Payanam?

Putting aside all the negative talk on his recent release ‘Kedi’, king Nagarjuna is busy and has started shooting for next film ‘Payanam’ (tentatively titled). The film took off the production deck here on Thursday and is said to be a bilingual film. While Radha Mohan (‘Aaksamantha’ fame) is directing, Dil Raju is producing the film in Telugu.

Prakash Raj is producing the film in Tamil version. The film is based on a true incident about the India flight Hijacked by Talibans.“This is a good commercial movie with a message. And I have not donned such a role in my career”, said a rejuvenated Nagarjuna.

Krish’s Vedam by June end

'Gamyam’ is a critically acclaimed film that earned enormous awards for the debut director Krish. Now, the director is giving final touch to his second film ‘Vedam’ featuring three happening stars in Tollywood - Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu and Anushka. While Allu Arjun is playing an absolute mass character, Manoj will be seen as a rock star and Anushka essays the role of a prostitute. This apart, ‘Vedam’ also has few other stars giving guest appearances. Musical scores are rendered by MM Keeravani and lyrics are written by Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry. After directing an off beat film like ‘Gamyam’ director Krish is now going to test his waters with a commercial film like ‘Vedam’. This film is expected to release by June end.

Cinematographer Ram Prasad, whose camera work played a vital role in ‘Athanokkade’ is now stepping into the shoes of Shyam K Naidu. Yes! He is now going to replace Shyam for SS Rajamouli’s current flick ‘Maryada Ramanna’ with Sunil and Saloni as leading stars. It is learnt that Shyam is presently hooked up to Puri Jagannath’s latest project ‘Golimaar’, therefore he is unable to manage his dates for Rajamouli’s film. So since he had decided to opt out of this film, Ram Prasad bagged the golden opportunity to work with a sensational director like Rajamouli. Right now the shooting of ‘Maryada Ramanna’ is progressing in the surroundings of Hyderabad.

Based on a Einstein theory with a sub plot of terrorism this romantic film is being made and presented by Blue Fox Cinema in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

Sunil shoots for Rajamouli’s Maryada Ramanna

On the other hand producer Shiva Prasad Reddy will be marking the 25th anniversary of his banner by producing a film starring Naga Chaitanya in the lead.

RGV ropes in Priyamani

Actress Priyamani was thought to have hit the jackpot when she was signed on by none other than Mani Ratnam to star in his multistarrer bilingual Raavan alongside stalwarts Vikram, Ashwariya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. Now it seems like Priyamani has hit on another jackpot. The latest bit of news doing the rounds is that the pretty actress has been roped in by Ram Gopal Varma to star in his ambitious political drama Rakta Charitra. The film is a peek into the lives of Paritala Ravi and his arch rival Maddelachervu Suri, portrayed by Vivek Oberoi and Tamil actor Surya, respectively. Priyamani will be portraying the role of Maddelachervu Suri’s wife in the film. The two part film will be releasing by this year end.

Sexy Sam’s Haunting Illness

The hot and raunchy sex siren Sameera Reddy is one girl who is famous for giving sleepless nights to many men. Some say that even young tiger NTR jr was one among them. But did you know that this bombshell has got a haunting illness and that is sleepwalking.

This has been on since 20 years and the good news is that she has been able to get rid of it. Apparently, Sexy Sam was persuaded to get into the Oneness University which is the threshold of the Kalki Bhagawan and Amma Bhagawan and she enrolled herself for a one week program.

Now, it is heard that she has got rid of the sleepwalking illness and is sleeping like a baby now. It seems that the program costs whopping Rs 7000 but if it can cure an illness of 20 years then maybe it is worth it. Well, Sam seems to have cured her sleepwalking but what happens to those men who still have sleepless nights due to her…

Rs 80 Cr Pawan Kalyan And Mahesh Babu

Wondering what this is all about? Well, here is the story. One man has put in nothing less than Rs 80 crores on both power star Pawan Kalyan and prince Mahesh Babu and right now, he is biting his nails in tension. He is none other than Singanamala Ramesh and he has a real good reason for being like this.

Apparently, Ramesh happens to be the producer of ‘Komaram Puli’ with Pawan and the Mahesh Babu movie tentatively titled ‘Khiladi’. It is heard that each movie has been made at a whopping budget of Rs 40 crores and so the producer is skeptical on whether the investment can be got back or not.

While some say that the brand value of both Pawan and Mahesh is quite which should work, they also caution that the expectations would be double since both stars have not been around since a while. So that way, a Rs 80 crores tension sure seems to be looming over the head of Singanamala.

What '3 Angels' Doing Now?

It was with great hype and hoopla that the new banner ‘3 Angels’ was launched and the reason for that is, it is owned by the three talented daughters of the mighty Aswini Dutt. The trio came in with a decent maiden venture ‘Baanam’ and though it failed commercially due to lack of publicity, the critical acclaim was quite high.

Then they came in with a rather ambitious ‘Om Shanti’ and the film turned to be a terrible disaster at the box office. So now, many are waiting to see what project they are going to sign up with and how they will proceed.

Inside sources say that the ‘3 Angels’ has decided to go in for some brand and commercial value for their next venture, probably with a big actor. This would also mean that they will want father Aswini to put his hand and guide them accordingly. It will be interesting to see what the banner has in mind now.

Film Chamber’s Action On Eenadu Paper!

With each passing day, the dark side of the Eenadu newspaper has been surfacing and here is something that could spell doom for the noted daily. Apparently, the news is that the film chamber has decided to take an action on the Eenadu paper and put an end to their dictating attitude.

Incidentally, any ad related to cinema in the newspaper tends to get a subsidy but in the case of Eenadu, no subsidies are given for cine ads. The folks say claim to be number 1 in the market and so there are no agreements which can be made with them.

This was the scene few years back but even today, it seems that there is no change in situations. This has reduced the circulation of the newspaper in film industry as they are going for Andhra Jyothi and Sakshi. Perhaps it is time Ramoji Rao stops walking in air and realizes few ground realities.

Magadheera On Blu-Ray: First Time in India

Geetha Arts, one of the leading production houses since 1972, has not only produced mega blockbusters in Indian languages but also pioneered many innovations. This time around, Geetha Arts has joined hands with Balaji Video, the largest home video company, to woo the audiences with a new offering – The all-time blockbuster Magadhereera on Blu-Ray. It includes a bonus disc with additional material. While the DVDs will hit the stands on the 3rd week of March, the Blu-Ray will be available 2 weeks after that. The Blu-Ray discs will be made available outside India for overseas viewers. Incidentally, this is the first time a Telugu movie’s Blu-Ray disc is being released in the Indian market. Blu-Ray disc is the latest storage format which redefines home-viewing besides giving an experience on par with cinemas in picture quality and sound. A generation ahead of DVDs.

- Master (1997) was the first Telugu film to be released on an audio CD, beside the first Telugu film to be released in DTS.

- Johnny (2003) was the first Telugu film to have movie merchandising. Also the first film in Telugu to have in-film placement and co-branded advertising. It was also the first Telugu film to use sync-sound while filming.

- Jalsa (2008) was the first Telugu film to have a mobile game based on it. Also, the first Telugu film using standees in theaters as a publicity tool.

- On its home production Ghajini, starring Aamir Khan Geetha Arts also created India’s first PC game, in association with FX Labs.

Press Release By Geeta Arts

Allari Naresh’s No ‘Allari’ In Film Shoot

The tall and talented Allari Naresh is one actor who is known for his prefix. Apparently, Naresh has got his own share of tantrums while on the sets and he is also known to be very prank oriented while working with his director and producer on the sets. So there is a lot of ‘Allari’ happening when he is around.

However, the actor who is known for troubling directors has shocked one and all as he is being spotted in a quiet and obedient manner. Apparently, he is busy with the shooting of his new movie ‘Sumadhuram’ (tentative title) and he is not getting into any games with director K Vishwanath.

It is heard that Vishwanath is one man who is quite strict on the sets and has got a strong code of discipline. This seems to have been realized well by Allari Naresh and he is currently said to be a completely meek character who is focusing on his work and not doing anything funny.

Tollywood’s True Colors Revealed In Padmanabham Issue

The film world is a faint glimmer of shining glass and beyond that lies a dark world of selfishness and mean natures. Atleast that’s the feeling many got after the recent incident. Yes, we are talking about the sad demise of the iconic comedian Padmanabham who ruled the roost during his peak.

For someone who has done more than 500 films and teamed up with the legends of Telugu cinema, not one worthy soul came to pay last respects during the last journey. Padmanabham had been going through severe financial crunch during his last days and the rich Telugu industry failed to bother even once about him.

The only solace was found in the presence of two notable names in the form of veteran Sarada and singer S P Balasubramanyam. These are few examples that show how the Telugu film industry has been demonstrating its commercial nature not just in reel life but also in real life. Forgive them if you can Padmanabham garu….

Story

kediRamesh (Nagarjuna) runs away from home during his childhood and gets attracted towards smuggling. He is an expert in smuggling and con activities. He settles in Goa and works for a big-time smuggler Chandra (Ankur Vakil). Something goes wrong in a deal and Ramesh does an unthinkable mistake. ACP Sekhar who is in pursuit of Ramesh nabs him and starts an interrogation. The rest of the story is all about how Ramesh redeems himself.

Artists Performance

kediNagarjuna keeps surprising everyone with his looks. He looks slimmer, younger and dashing in the role of Kedi. He is so handsome that he could give any young Telugu actor a run for his money. And the heroines of Nagarjuna should really do something extraordinary to match up to his looks. Mamata Mohandas suited the role well and did commendable job within the limitations of the characterization. Ankur Vakil (Slumdog Millionaire fame) is competent. Sayaji Shinde shines in the role of honest officer. Brahmanandam is partly entertaining. Harsha Vardhan did the role of hero’s sidekick and he has got lots of footage in the movie. Anushka did a cameo in Maya Maschindra song that comes during title cards of the movie. Hindi actors like Nirmal Pandey, Akhilendra Mishra and Kelly Dorji did roles in the movie. The rest of the actors consist of mostly TV artists.

Technical departments

kediStory: The basic arch of the story has it’s roots in Hindi flick ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ . That movie is based on a real life story of a passionate thief called Bunty in Delhi. The screenplay, narrative style and characterizations are inspired by that film. Both films start with hero captured by cops. Then the senior cop starts investigating and the flashback starts with childhood days of hero where he would have a love affair. The rest of the story is narrated through a series of flashbacks from the hero to the cop. The sidekick character is also inspired by OLLO. The director has added terrorist angle to the movie. An interesting aspect of the movie is that both hero and cop characters are realistic. Cop doesn’t hold any personal grudge thief and he treat hero as a fellow human being.

kediScreenplay - direction: Debutant director Kiran tried to do a different screenplay with this movie and somehow he fails to produce the desired result. The main problem with the movie is that there are no commercial payoffs. One can make a good movie even without having commercial payoffs. But the director couldn’t able to narrate this ‘hatke’ subject interestingly. The movie goes into uni-dimensional mode in the second half and it cost the movie dearly.

kediOther departments: Music by Sandeep Chowta is adequate. Cinematography by Sarvesh Murari stands out. The locations of Goa are well selected (especially the villain’s house where the bottom of balcony is touches the sea). Dialogues are alright. Stunts are realistic. Art direction is neat.

kediAnalysis: First half of the movie is adequate. Second half is disappointing. Nagarjuna should be appreciated for his guts to agree to act in a kind of this movie. If made well, Kedi could have become real class movie and if it’s not then the result could be catastrophic. The debutant director couldn’t handle the script well and it becomes an uninteresting fare. On a whole, Kedi fails to keep audiences interested in the movie.

Why Twitter isn’t the best platform for South Indian movie stars by Allu Sirish

Unlike radio, TV, print media & outdoor, internet is the only mass medium in the world that offers two-way communication. In the others, the sender (media) broadcasts a message and the receiver (viewer/listener/reader) receives it. In traditional media such as print & television, the media channel that’s broadcasting a celebrity’s interview or statement acts as a ‘gatekeeper’. They decide which statement of a particular actor goes on air and what doesn’t. This gives them control over how they want to project the celebrity. Many times, celebrities have complained that they were misquoted in press or that their words have been twisted out of the context by the journalist.

With the advent of internet, especially web 2.0 – celebrities don’t need the media to do the gatekeeping anymore. They can directly interact with the end-user using social media platforms like blogs, Facebook fan pages or Twitter accounts. In many controversies, people involved complain of ‘trial by media’ – a phrase to describe the impact of television and newspaper coverage on a person’s reputation by creating a widespread perception of guilt regardless of any verdict in a court of law. In the times of crisis, social media genuinely gives the celebrity a chance to defend himself and clarify.

Social media presents the opportunity for celebrities to update with fans & moviegoers about their work and personal life, eliminating traditional media as a channel all together. Karan Johar recently hit out Priyadarshan on Twitter for calling the MNIK-Shivsena tussle a publicity stunt. He dint need to invite the media on a press conference specifically to let them know his reaction on this issue. He just posted it on Twitter and the media picked it up. Every time Aamir Khan or Amitabh Bachchan post something on their blog, it becomes national headlines. They cannot be misquoted, as everybody can see what they had to say on their blogs.

Recently, when a reputed business newspaper approached me, enquiring about Magadheera’s Hindi remake – I said we’re considering (not approached) some A-list actors in Bollywood, as only big stars can do justice to it. I don’t know how & why, but the next day – I read a report where I was quoted that Hrithik Roshan is going to play Charan’s role and Aamir Khan in Srihari’s role! I was misquoted, and this article spread far as it was reported by a credible newspaper and created so much confusion in the market about our movie. But thanks to social-media, though I am no celebrity I was able to clarify about the issue using Twitter and my blog to some extent.

Initially I wanted to get my family members and other from the industry on Twitter. It’s the new ‘it-thing’. So many Hollywood and Hindi film celebrities are on it. But after being on Twitter for the last 10 months, I feel it’s not the only & best social-media platform for celebrities to interact with the public. My argument is more-so for South Indian celebrities, whose situation is a little unique from the rest. While I am all in support of social-media, I feel an official website or blog might be a better platform. Here’s my take :

Fan Rivalries & Hate mail: South India has one of the most intense fan rivalries in the world. It’s not unusual to see people come to blows when defending their favorite actor. I myself am guilty of doing it in school. The fact that a certain celebrity is easy accessible will motivate fans of rival actors to post hate messages on Twitter. Irrespective of whether the star reacts to hate mail or not, the poster knows that his message will reach the star. Since real identities can be masked in twitter, it makes it more simple to write offensive tweets. Most people don’t express dislike or hate in real life even if the celebrity is accessible to them.

Also, on Twitter – the celebrity does not have the access/rights to delete defamatory tweets made on him, where as if it’s a blog – that certain comment will not be approved and visible for public to read. Recently, Chetan Bhagat – the author of ‘Five Point Someone’ was annoyed that a cartoonist was poking fun of him on Twitter. He couldn’t do much – where as if it were his blog, he could simply make sure the comment doesn’t show up. Movie buffs like me use movie collections as a metric to show popular or big a star is. A lot of people use the the numbers of ‘followers’ on Twitter as a metric to measure popularity which isn’t the case. Priyanka Chopra has more followers than Shah Rukh Khan where as politician Shashi Tharoor has 500% more followers than SRK! But, it’s undeniable that Shah Rukh is more famous than the other two.

Too much answerability to Gossip: Traditional media like newspapers, TV stations are legal identities that are answerable to the celebrities and law. Recently, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie have sued Britain’s News of the World newspaper for triggering off rumors of their alleged divorce. Preity Zinta sued Mumbai tabloid Mid-day for printing transcripts of a so-called leaked CBI tapes which had unpleasant things said about her. Traditional media can’t say anything about a star and get away with it.

There are a lot of popular websites that exist only virtually, without legal real-life identities. They’re virtually untraceable. The identities of the owners and editors of traditional media have to be made public for them to operate. Blogs or websites can be started by anyone. They don’t require credentials or large capital. Most websites that publish gossip lack real-life legal identities and are virtually untraceable. That gives them courage to write anything, most times creating something out of thin air to get readers excited. The comic below aptly summarizes how gossip travels in today’s social-media era. The amount gossip around a celebrity today is way more than what it was earlier. When it comes to gossip many people have a ‘No fire, no smoke’ attitude, thinking its partly true. But trust me, most times gossip is somebody’s imagination and not even remotely close to reality.

twitter

After reading such gossip, the anxious reader would immediately tweet to the star asking him to clarify about gossip/rumors. It’s impractical and unreasonable for an actor to keep defending and clarifying gossip about him all the time. Even if the celebrity choses to be silent its hard, as they’re always pestered to clarify. The celebrity is expected to address by every gossip, everytime it’s asked – which is impractical – and again do it only in 140 characters! For ex : I clarified on Twitter that Geetha Arts never considered remaking 3 Idiots in telugu. But I get kept asking the same question over & again. If the celeb has an official website or blog, they can just post the clarification, in detail with images or video if required and just once for everyone to see. If he chooses to remain silent, he wouldn’t just blog about it.

Frequent Updation & Limitations: The very way in which Twitter operates is that, it’s expected to be updated frequently. Many celebrities update it multiple times a day. Good for those who are doing it, but the ones who don’t are expected to post something often. Most people who update regularly on Twitter, post trivial stuff about their personal life. Also, they have to post something only in 140 characters. On a blog, they can write more freely, update it less frequently – only when they have something useful to say, insert pictures or video. It is uncensored and as immediate as Twitter. Also it gives the celeb more control over what is being said by them and about them.

Surprisingly, even Twitter is trying to move away from its celebrity culture and offer more value beyond following celebrities. Reach the article on CNN. Popular celebrities on twitter post personal information like what they’re doing at present, where they are currently. And other celebrities too are expected to do the same. A lot of celebs value their privacy hence, have avoided this all together. Some of them like Kanye West, Zac Efron, Beyonce Knowles and Drew Barrymore are vocal on why they are not on Twitter. They either feel its intrusive, limiting in expression or find it too demanding. Most of the top Hollywood names like Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie & Megan Fox are not on Twitter. A lot of celebs have official websites, blogs and Facebook presence, but have decided to give Twitter a miss. Also, due to the sheer volume of communication and time required to maintain it a lot of celebrities don’t handle their twitter account themselves but have PR team in place. Its not ‘personal’ anymore. Most celebs who do this are even open about it. Social media offers various platforms like Orkut, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn and so on. Last known there are 50 such platforms on which a person or celebrity can be on. A celebrity need not be on all platforms, but choose the right one to be present in. Due to the reasons cited above I feel Twitter is not the best platforms for celebs, especially Southern movie stars to interact with fans and audience. An official website or blog is a better way to communicate.

Review

Story

leaderCM of the state Sanjeevayya (Suman) dies in a bomb blast. Dhnunjay (Subbaraju) – a relative of Sanjeevayya plans to take over the post of CM. Arjun Prasad (Rana Daggubati), the son of Sanjeevayya is a well educated and a successful entrepreneur in the USA. He realises that his CM father was a corrupt person and entire political system is infested with corruption. Arjun uses his brain to outsmart Dhanunjay to become the CM. The rest of the story is all about how Arjun fights the system of corruption and makes a difference.

Artists Performance

leaderRaNa: The title role of Leader needs an actor of tremendous ability to do justice and RaNa Daggabati comes up with a fabulous performance. It was a brave decision by Sekhar Kammula to cast a newcomer like RaNa and he justifies it by doing excellent work. His voice is his best asset. He can speak Telugu in a highly authoritative manner. However, he looked little stiff and self-conscious in casual scenes and scenes involving heroines.

leaderOthers: Richa Gangopadhyay did a performance oriented role and she is good. Priya Anand is adequate. After a long time, we see Kota getting a meaty role and doing remarkable work. Suhasini is terrific in the movie with her controlled performance. Subba Raju is excellent as the villain. Harsha Vardhan gets another noteworthy role in this movie after ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’. His performance is superb in the first scene. Tanikella Bharani is nice. Rao Ramesh and Ahuti Prasad are adequate. Udaya Bhanu did an item song in the movie.

Technical departments

leaderStory - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie is good. It’s about a good son of a corrupt leader taking the mantle of CMship to put an end to corruption. Like any other political films, this movie too has many real life incidents (YSR’s death and power squabble that followed it, Ayesha murder case in Vijayawada, atrocities on Dalits in Chunduru, Lumbini Park blasts etc). Director Sekhar Kammula introduced the characters and story of the movie in an impressive way. He set the right platform for the movie to take off in the first half. However, the tempo is not maintained in the second half as the main point gets diluted in love episode and family feuds in the second half. The following scenes of the movie are really good

1. The hospital scene where all the prominent politicians vie for the top post as CM battles death in the ICU
2. The scene in a song where hero gives cloth to a lady with torn jacket.
3. Kota’s subtle reactions in the scene of hero claiming CM seat.
4. Hero meeting Gollapudi Maruthi Rao and humiliating his greediness and hunger for power.
5. The scene of corrupting a section of MLAs (the background rendering of
Idi Mana Bharatam is good)
6. The beautiful scene of explaining the ‘rice free’ scheme.
7. Maa Telugu Talliki song is excellent
8. The old man meeting CM about his dead daughter

The following things are unconvincing –

1. The entire MLAs are shown as crooks and this movie shows the entire political fraternity as corrupt.
2. The entire thread of Priya Anand didn’t work. The character of Ali (Harsha Vardhan) has a strong purpose to work earnestly for hero, but for Priya Anand there is no such objective.
3. Hero trying to betray another heroine in the name of love is not convincingly narrated.
4. There are some good scenes in the second half, but they weren’t properly established in order to make an impact on the audiences.
5. The entire second half runs on the single agenda of hero trying to save one lac crore fund.
6. The scenes of hero relinquishing CM post and going for elections and winning it are not narrated in an impact making way. All these scenes are inserted in a song as a montage.
7. The main villain is spared in the movie despite him plotting attacks against the hero.
8. The episode where Kota accepts that he is a caste fanatic in a TV interview defies logic (no successful political party admits caste bias openly).

leaderOther departments: Music of the movie is the biggest asset. Mickey J Meyer came up with impact making background score and rerecording. Equal mention should be given for DTX mixing in the vital scenes. Cinematography by Vijay C Kumar is neat. Dialogues penned by Sekhar Kammula are excellent and thought provoking (nijayatee gaa pani cheyyadamante tyagam cheyyatame, rice free scheme, oka china hope ivvara, ammaiki nyayam cheyyaleni CM vunte entha voodithe entha etc). Editing of the movie is very good in the first half, but should have been better in the second half. Production values by AVM are excellent.

leaderAnalysis: First half of the movie is very good and sets the right platform for the story to take-off. The built-up scenes of hero becoming CM and very well written and directed. The love/betrayal episode and hero’s effort to save CM chair brings the tempo of the movie down in the second half. Though Maa Telugu Talliki song climax is good, it appears abrupt and is devoid of the politically charged excitement required for ending of a movie. The intent of Sekhar Kammula to make a movie for corruption free politics should be appreciated. He did very good job in the first half. However, the things aren’t the same in the second half. On a whole, Leader is a noble attempt to do an idealistic movie. We have to wait and see how it performs at box office.
