Are Heroes Really Heroes??

The word ‘hero’ is a common thing in the film industry but come to think of it, is it really the correct definition for someone who portrays a character on the screen which has been written by someone under the direction of someone else and that too with exorbitant money of another person.

So what exactly do they do to deserve the title hero is the question being raised by many level headed people. For starters, the titles such as actors, performers are more apt since that is the perfect description of what they do. The same goes for heroines as well who believe in flaunting their glamour to the fullest and offer nothing but sex appeal. Perhaps the term performers might be a difficult one to use for them then.

The conviction that they are meant to fall in love and be a beauty doll and that too repeatedly is something which many find hard to fathom. Anyhow, the idea of heroism off late has been to come up with larger than life images and do practically impossible things. The element of being one in a crowd and someone that the common man can relate to has become a strict no-no for these stars. Ironically, they tend to charge a fortune for all the superficial deeds they do so one fails to understand whether it is the ignorance of the people who worship him or the shallow glass appeal that is smeared with a figment of imagination.

Gone are the days when faces like NTR Sr, ANR, Nagayya etc are seen on celluloid. With technology playing a key role in cutting down the age of the actors and glamour taking the front seat, the truthful approach to define a hero and form a connection between him and the audience is not seen anymore.

Even the ‘heroes’ don’t usually encourage ideas such as these and prefer to live in their ivory towers. So surprising is their approach that they would charge star figures to make their presence felt in weddings or even dance on a real happy occasion. The real credit must be given to those unnamed stuntmen who live on the edge of life every single day and those nerve wrecked graphics specialists who burn the candle day in and out to come up with a glorified image for the hero.

This is not to question the integrity of their profession but the thought prevails as to whether they should really be termed as ‘heroes’ and ‘heroines’? If their title is justified then what you would call someone like Mahatma Gandhi, Che Guevara, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Sarojini Naidu etc…what’s your take on this folks…
