Youth held for 'threat calls' to actor

Hyderabad: Police arrested a 26-yearold post-graduate for allegedly sending abusive text messages and making threat calls to actor M S Narayana and his family members since the last 20 days.

Ravi Kumar, 26, a resident of Gopalapatnam, in Visakhapatnam, finished MSc in chemistry and was doing a private job in the Steel City. Since last one month, he had been making phone calls and sending abusive SMSes to MS Narayana, his son Vikram and other family members, police said. If Narayana did not take his phone calls, he used to call up his son or driver late in the night and abuse them using filthy language. If no one attended his calls, Ravi used to send filthy text messages. For this, Ravi bought 10 SIM cards and used to call up from different numbers, police added.

On January 4, Narayana lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police. Police laid a trap and acting as Narayana’s associates invited him to Hyderabad to meet some film stars. When Ravi landed in Jubilee Hills to meet his favourite film stars, police arrested him on Tuesday night and produced him in court on Wednesday.

Ravi told police he used to make phone calls and send SMSes to several other film personalities, including Raja Mouli, E V V Satyanarayana, Ravi Teja and Venumadhav. To secure the phone numbers of the Telugu film fraternity, Ravi used to call Movie Artistes Association (MAA) office or directors’ association office in Hyderabad in the guise of manager of an actor.

“Ravi claimed he had nothing personal against any actor, but if someone did not respond to his calls, he used to get angry and harass them by sending SMSes and threat calls,” Jubilee Hills inspector K Narsinga Rao said.
